Description: Needlepoint and hooked wool techniques are combined to create a unique art piece. The needlepoint provides the detail to this colorful Iris and the hooked wool provides the background to create a wall accessory that could complement a larger art feature or stand alone on a smaller, corner wall.
Designer: Needlepoint design by Paula Vaughan; background by Nancy Pierce at Artisans on the cul-de-sac.
Technique: Counted cross-stich is used for the Iris design. Hand-dyed, wool strips are hooked by hand to create a rich, soft wool background texture. The edges are finished with tape and whipped stitching using wool yarn. A metal frame has been inserted into the back within the tape and is ready for hanging.
Fabrics: 100% wool, hand-dyed and hooked on cotton monks cloth for the background; cotton thread for the needlepoint.
Care: Spot clean using gentle cleaners suitable for woolen fabrics.
Size: 12 X 14 inches, finished size
